Chat Gitter was acquired by GitLab

Startup Gitter specializes in creating chats that are integrated with repositories. It helps developers who work on projects together can exchange thoughts. This acquisition is a part of the company’s strategy to develop a popular SaaS-solution for public repositories.


Gitter began its work in 2014. During this time, the number of its users has reached 800 thousand. Soon the service will have the opportunity to Login with GitLab to give groups and projects on GitLab the opportunity to create chats and communities easily.


The GitLab manual plans to bring all the Gitter code to public access. This step should help all members of the community work on improving of the service. The GitLab project was created by Dmitriy Zaporozhets from Kharkiv. For him this project was a hobby, because he needed this tool as a developer.
